Michaels talked about this. He stated that after his match with Rick Flair (retairment match) he spoke with his wife and told her that he was ready to go home. He sead that after that match he felt complete like he has achieved all he wanted and was ready to end it. He was looking for a good way to do it and what they come up was the rivalry with the Undertaker. I think Shaun could have not asked anyone better to help him retire with honor. The idea of "Streak vs carrier , somethining nobody wants to end but 1 has to give up" was the best thing they could of ever done. It rased the stakes so high that it made it impossible to have a bad match. Cudos to the Undertaker as well because he did injure his knee during that Old school jump but managed to carry on and have one of the best matches of both man's carriers. The perfect send of for Shaun. To bad that the Undertaker didnt got to use his. The last match Taker vs HHH with Shaun as referee was the perfect send of for Taker as well... Unfortunatly Vince was not ready to let go and ended up making that abomanation with Brock L.

This remains to this day one of the best matches I’ve ever watched at WrestleMania. And it was also the only ‘Mania match I watched where I wasn’t wholeheartedly pulling for the Undertaker. Same, this was the first Wrestlemania I watched when I was 9. This is one of my favorite matches of all time and going into it I wanted Shawn to win, but deep down I knew Taker was gonna win.
